Hi Folks,
I am Marie Cheek and I started this business about 10 years ago to fill a need for caricature and art entertainment services in the Washington, DC metro area. My background is as a fine artist and illustrator, but as everyone knows painting can be a difficult way to make a living. So after spending nearly 20 years doing illustration and production work, I began drawing caricatures 15 years ago in response to an ad in the Washington Post. I found out that I could draw every day, make people happy, and even pay my bills. It was a win-win situation. |
Over the years I have found that I am unable to fill all of the art entertainment needs by myself (I tried cloning myself in my basement laboratory, but it didn't work). I had to expand my business to include other very talented local artists. All of the artists in the Washington DC metro area are independents, which means that I am able to request the help of specialized fine artists for your events, depending on your needs. This was also a win-win because other wonderful artists now have another outlet for their creative energies--and are a little less likely to be "starving artists".
Caricature Artists Group provides caricatures, face painting, cut silhouettes (the old-fashioned way--with scissors), and we do quick or fine portraits. These services are available for parties, conventions, trade shows, corporate events, high school graduation parties, and anything else you can imagine.
Fine oil portraiture or watercolor portraits are also available. The artists are out of state, and work from the photos I take of the subjects. They ship the finished work to the office in Annandale.
I only book artists here in the DC metro area, so if you need an artist in California or Canada or any other faraway place, the place to find him/ her is on the National Caricaturists Network website, which is www.caricature.org.
They have a good selection of artists to fill your needs.
My office is centrally located in Annandale, VA. Please be sure to call and make an appointment if you want to come by for a caricature, portrait, or silhouette, and I'll be glad to help you. Please also feel free to email with questions or requests. Actually, I prefer email because then we don't have to play phone tag.
Thanks for your interest and I hope to hear from you soon.
Marie Cheek
P.S. For all of you convention and trade show planners, we can provide caricature artists and other art services to draw people to your booths. We really do "draw a crowd", and you'll find that your booth manned by one or more of our talented artists will be the busiest booth at any trade show or convention. People will get to take home a clever drawing or silhouette of themselves, which is far more memorable than bringing home pens, magnets, or tote bags. Your booth will be the biggest "people magnet" at the trade show.
